empanadas

Ingredients

  • 2 cups harina P.A.N. (precooked cornmeal)
  • 2 ½ cups lukewarm water
  • Salt
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp turmeric
  • 1 liter oil for frying
  • Filling of your choosing

Recipe

  • Mix together water, salt, turmeric, sugar and butter
  • Add the harina P.A.N. slowly, mixing constantly to avoid forming lumps
  • Start kneading the dough - if it has absorbed all the liquid, add a little more water and keep mixing until the dough is smooth
  • Let dough rest for a few minutes before preparing the empanadas
  • Heat the oil for frying in a large and deep pan, form the empanadas, and fry them until golden brown.
